Equity in ecosystem restoration

چکیده
The importance of equity has been emphasized in climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation, and ecosystem restoration. However, implications are rarely considered explicitly restoration projects. Although the role studied context conservation environmental governance, variables often ignored studies, spatial analyses lacking. To address these gaps, we use a mixed methods approach, integrating spatially explicit ecological social data to evaluate, through an lens, project semi-arid rangeland socioecological system Kenya. We questionnaires semi-structured key informant interviews explore four dimensions equity: distributional, procedural, recognitional, contextual. Our results show that employment distance site strongly influence perceived distributional procedural equity. متن کاملMetric Selection for Ecosystem Restoration
This technical note is designed to help ecosystem restoration planners and project managers identify the best metrics to evaluate and select the recommended restoration plan, monitor and assess progress toward achieving project objectives, and, if necessary, inform adaptive management decisions. Performance metrics, or measurable system components used to estimate and track the state of critica...
متن کاملBenefits of investing in ecosystem restoration.
Measures aimed at conservation or restoration of ecosystems are often seen as net-cost projects by governments and businesses because they are based on incomplete and often faulty cost-benefit analyses. After screening over 200 studies, we examined the costs (94 studies) and benefits (225 studies) of ecosystem restoration projects that had sufficient reliable data in 9 different biomes ranging ...
متن کاملAdaptive management of coastal ecosystem restoration projects
There is a clear need to apply better and more effective management schemes to coastal ecosystem restoration projects. It is very common for aquatic ecosystem restoration projects not to meet their goals. Poor performance has led to a high degree of uncertainty about the potential success of any restoration effort. Under adaptive management, the knowledge gained through monitoring of the projec...
متن کاملRestoration of ecosystem services for environmental markets.
Ecological restoration is an activity that ideally results in the return of an ecosystem to an undisturbed state. Ecosystem services are the benefits humans derive from ecosystems. The two have been joined to support growing environmental markets with the goal of creating restoration-based credits that can be bought and sold. However, the allure of these markets may be overshadowing shortcoming...
